The easiest preventative measure is to simply unplug your computer. If you must use your computer during a hurricane, we suggest having the largest battery backup available in case the power surges.*
* Leaving a computer plugged in during a storm will subject the computer to possible electrical damage. Always backup your data!
There's a chance that if a storm builds enough strength that water may get into your home. As a preventative measure, move those computers and electronics off of the floor and to higher ground. We also suggest using large, heavy duty trash bags to cover your value equipment. Prior to doing this, remember to backup your data! You are only as safe as your last backup on your computer!
When looking for a portable phone charger, look that the MaH (milliamp Hour - it is a unit that measures (electric) power over time) first and foremost. The higher the number the longer it will last you in the event of a power failure, which means fewer trips to your car to charge it. Keeping in touch with loved ones during a hurricane is critcal!
Freeze several empty jugs or containers prior to the storm. Make sure you leave room for the water to expand so it doesn't break the container. If you lose power, put some in the refrigerator to keep your groceries cold. In most cases, they will keep your refrigerator cold enough until power is restore!
Most Importantly, Stay SAFE!!
